Therapeutic Botox Injections

Botox injections are used to treat muscle hypertonicity (muscle spasms). This is a condition often experienced by patients with neurological disorders such as a stroke. Botox is also sometimes used to address chronic muscle spasms as related to myofascial (muscle and connective tissue) pain.

Botox works by blocking the release of Acetylcholine (ACh), a chemical messenger that allows the nerve and muscle to communicate. The blocking of ACh prevents the muscle from contracting.
